History of the Penterep Platform

Like many other penetration testers, we felt that something was off. While tools for fully automated testing are proliferating extensively, support for manual penetration testing is scarce. The Penterep platform was born out of the demands of penetration testers to make their exacting work as easy and efficient as possible. Consequently in the development of the platform, we are doing everything we can to ideally combine automated and manual testing to make most testers' dreams come true.

  1. ResearchPenterep started as an applied research project at Brno University of Technology (BUT) in cooperation with HACKER Consulting s.r.o. The research and development started on 1 February 2020 under Grant No. TJ04000456. Researchers have worked hard to bring to market a solution that will make the work of penetration testers as easy and efficient as possible.
  2. Alpha VersionAs part of the research, a proof of concept was prepared, from which we developed the first alpha version of the penetration testing platform. At this stage, we also released the first tools from the PenterepTools collection, which we are publishing under the GNU GPL open source licence.
  3. Beta VersionCurrently we are in the beta testing phase of the Penterep platform within a test environment. During this phase, we have been running many tests and fine-tuning the last details. Plus beyond that, we're also continuing to add great new features to the platform.
  4. Early AccessThe platform is now in early access. The current version offers full support for manual penetration testing of web applications. Checklists to OWASP ASVS and Penterep PTWA are available.
  5. Release Version 1.0The first stable release version for all users will include modules and tools for penetration testing of web applications and additional components for test management, vulnerability assessments and teamwork.
  6. Penterep 1.1 (2026)The release of the new version introduces a completely redesigned user interface, an integrated mindmap for better project visibility, simplified execution of automated tools, faster report generation, JWT authentication support, project import capabilities, and additional improvements focused on more efficient daily workflows and team collaboration.
